Here at Odyssey House Victoria, we employ people who have their own experience with drug and alcohol addiction. Individuals who have received help through our own residential program as well as people who have their own journey of recovery through other avenues. Currently, we employ more than 30 staff whose experience helps them to engage with clients and residents and work to engender hope and build supportive and respectful relationships with individuals. They also help to encourage recovery-oriented thinking and behaviour.
Often people who are struggling with addiction may respond better to someone who has their own lived experience and has ‘been there, done that’. When people graduate from our residential program, we require them to have left the program for at least one year before they can work at Odyssey House and they also need to have completed a Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs.
