The Victorian State Government has committed to expanding the number of drug and alcohol residential rehabilitation beds over the next three years. The initiative aims to enhance access to treatment in regional areas, with new services to be established in Ballarat and Bairnsdale in 2019, and in Geelong and Wangaratta by 2021.
As featured in this newsletter, Odyssey House will operate the new 58-bed program located in Bairnsdale. In addition, Odyssey House has also teamed up with Gateway Health to operate the new 30-bed program in Wangaratta, serving Victoria’s north east.
We have a long standing relationship with the drug and alcohol team at Gateway Health, and are looking forward to establishing this much needed program together. The facility will be built and funded by the state government, and is likely to include some family beds so that young children can accompany their parents in treatment. We plan to create some synergies with our well established Circuit Breaker program located near Benalla, through sharing some staff and program resources and integrating our admission process.
