Dr Stefan Gruenert

Dr. Stefan Gruenert is a registered psychologist with more than 13 years experience in the drug and alcohol sector as a clinician, supervisor, researcher, and senior manager. In the past, Stefan has worked as a senior counsellor in a range of settings and has conducted research on alcohol use, treatment effectiveness, intimacy, family work and fathers. Stefan has been actively involved in promoting change to better address the needs of children affected by problematic parental substance use and has taught courses in counselling, statistics, drug and alcohol, family work, and personality disorders. He has developed a number of resources for workers in the drug and alcohol field, regularly provides advice to government, and has delivered a number of presentations at national and international conferences. In 2008, Stefan was invited as one of 300 delegates from around the world to a meeting on global drug policy held at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in Vienna. Stefan is a current Board Director of the Victorian Alcohol and other Drug Association, and of the Alcohol and Drug Council of Australia. He is also a member of the Australian Psychological Society’s Substance Use Interest Group, the Victorian Legal Aid Community Consultative Committee, and the Victorian Government’s Sector Reform Reference Group. Stefan has contributed to the Illicit Drugs in Sport reference group, the Expert Advisory Group for the Victorian Alcohol and Drug Strategy, and the Protecting Victoria’s Vulnerable Children Inquiry. Stefan has two young sons and enjoys travel, renovating, sport, gardening and cooking.
